You will have access to the refurbished George Wood Theatre and six studios as well as various workshops and teaching spaces for technical practice. Explore some of these spaces to get an idea of life as a Theatre and Performance student.

Thirty Five café

You’ve got a busy day of rehearsals ahead of you, so make sure you grab a coffee to give you a boost. You can visit Thirty Five Café on your way as it’s close by to the Theatre and Performance facilities in the Richard Hoggart Building. While you’re there grab a snack for later, working on an upcoming performance can be hungry work.

Scenography workshop

Stop by the scenography workshop to work on developing scenery and props for your current projects. The Department of Theatre and Performance is keen to immerse students in every aspect of putting on a production, so it’s likely you will be a regular here. Spend some time getting advice from the specialist technicians – they are available to help you learn and develop your ideas. What you work on is likely to vary. You could be developing a new costume, some props or even a stage backdrop.

College Green

After all that hard work bringing your performance to life it’s time to relax. Head to the College Green for a well-deserved break. This is the perfect spot to catch up as a group and have a picnic to help save those pennies. The ‘back field’ is a vast space so you could even do some practice for any Musical Theatre modules.

George Wood Theatre

George Wood Theatre

Welcome to your natural home, the theatre. You might be practising for an upcoming show, or working on the perfect lighting. Whatever aspect of performance you are specialising in, the theatre is a great space to work in. The theatre’s natural light and capacity of around 140 helps you to experience what it’s like to be on stage, so enjoy your moment in the spotlight.

Students Union

Students’ Union (SU)

Rehearsals are finished for now, so you can head to the Students’ Union for some fun after class. Grab a drink with friends, play a game of pool or just hang out. This space is for you to enjoy yourself. If you feel brave enough, why not give your friends a preview of what you’ve been working on.
